No sweets before dinner

No sweets before dinner

Mother always scolded me for eating sweets before dinner: “you’ll spoil your appetite”. Nonsense – I never felt full after sweets and finished the whole plate in any case.

Turns out food consumption order matters if you want to control your glucose levels, which affect your health: having less glucose spikes makes you feel better. Eat vegetables first (fiber), then proteins, starch and glucose last. Just like a proper restaurant meal: salad, main course, and dessert.

Hitting even a part of the greens-protein-glucose order is good: eat an before a chocolate bar, or a cucumber before pasta. Also exercise 20 minutes after a sweet snack.

Myself, I’ll remember the order for every meal I eat, and ensure I have a stock of vegetables for snacking. I’ll also steal the healthy meals provided from the book.
